Standards guide

Standards names alone do not make procurement or audit conversations easier. This page is built to explain what each standard or framework helps you decide and when it matters in a real operating workflow.

NISTClear / Purge
DoDlegacy requirement lens
ADECdomestic operating context
ADISAcontrol and partner model
Reuse Balance speed and assurance
Return / disposal Match partner expectations and records
Audit review Include evidence and control model
Assurance decision Choose assurance from operating conditions, not only method names

Media type, reuse intent, submission context, and partner handling together explain where NIST, DoD, ADEC, and ADISA matter.

NIST ClearBaseline for reuse-oriented sanitization
NIST PurgeStronger assurance path
DoDLegacy overwrite expectation lens
ADEC / ADISAOperating control and partner context
The structure frames standards as a decision system shaped by reuse, return, and audit needs rather than a flat list of names.

How to use this page

  • Start by deciding whether reuse, return, or audit is the main driver
  • Then choose the required assurance level for the actual media type
  • Finally layer on evidence, partner handling, and submission expectations
Important: This page explains standards and industry language. It does not imply that MASAMUNE holds certifications it does not publicly claim.

NIST SP 800-88

Useful for deciding between Clear, Purge, and stronger sanitization expectations.

DoD 5220.22-M

Still appears in legacy requirements and overwrite-oriented expectations.

Purge

Useful when reuse is still planned but stronger assurance is needed.

ADEC

Relevant when discussing domestic process maturity and handling context. Certification presence and erase method fit should be judged separately.

ADISA

Useful when evaluating operational controls, partner handling, and sanitization context.

What matters in practice

The actual decision is made from device type, reuse intent, return conditions, and evidence requirements together.

We can translate standards into operational choices.

Tell us whether your main issue is resale, return, or audit, and we will frame the standards discussion around that.
